Overview

TNI (Tentara Nasional Indonesia, the Indonesian National Armed Forces) recruits new personnel across its Army, Navy and Air Force branches through several entry routes, including Taruna Akademi TNI (officer cadets at the military academy), Perwira Prajurit Karier (PA PK, career officer entry for graduates), and Bintara/Tamtama Prajurit Karier (non-commissioned and enlisted entry), coordinated through the national rekrutmen-tni.mil.id portal alongside branch-specific sites.

Levels or stages

Taruna Akademi TNI

Officer-cadet entry into the military academy, selected through both regional (daerah) and central (pusat) selection stages, leading to commissioning after academy training.

PA PK TNI (career officer entry)

Open to graduates with relevant qualifications, recruited directly as career officers after selection, without passing through the full cadet academy route.

Bintara and Tamtama Prajurit Karier

Non-commissioned officer and enlisted entry routes, each with their own age, education and physical requirements, run on a similar regional-then-central selection structure.

Exam pattern

Selection generally has five steps on the portal: registration (creating an account and completing data on the official recruitment portal), regional-level (daerah) selection, central-level (pusat) selection, initial education (pendidikan pertama), and for officer routes the Prasetya Perwira (Praspa) swearing-in for those who pass the initial education. For Taruna Akademi specifically, regional selection covers administration, a basic competency test (TKD), health examination stage I, physical fitness testing, mental ideology assessment, psychological testing, health examination stage II, and a regional final-decision panel (pantukhir daerah); central selection covers administration, a cyber test, health examination, physical fitness testing, mental ideology assessment, psychological testing, an academic test, and a central final-decision panel (pantukhir pusat).

Important dates

Recruitment cycles are announced separately by programme and branch; for example, the 2026–2027 cycle listed Taruna Akademi TNI registration and selection planned for May–July 2027, and PA PK TNI Gelombang II registration from 16 September to 20 October 2026.

How to apply

Registration is online only, through rekrutmen-tni.mil.id (with branch-specific sub-portals for Army, Navy and Air Force), during the published window for the chosen programme and cycle.

After the exam

Candidates who pass all stages begin route-specific initial education (academy, officer, or enlisted training) before being posted to a unit.

Preparation tips

Because both regional and central selection stages repeat health, fitness and psychological testing before the academic/cyber test, sustaining fitness and health standards throughout the full process — not just at the start — matters as much as academic preparation for the TKD or academic test.
