Overview
Polri (Kepolisian Negara Republik Indonesia) recruits new police personnel through several entry routes — Taruna Akpol (officer cadets, the police academy), Bintara (non-commissioned officers), and Tamtama (enlisted personnel), plus SIPSS (the officer route for graduates) and special-skill Bintara tracks (Bakomsus) — each with its own eligibility and selection schedule, run through the national Penerimaan Polri online portal.
Levels or stages
Taruna Akpol
Officer-cadet entry into the Akademi Kepolisian (Police Academy), for candidates meeting academy-specific academic, age and physical standards, leading to commissioning as a police officer.
Bintara
Non-commissioned officer entry, the main route for general police duty, open to candidates with at least a senior-secondary (SMA/equivalent) qualification within the route's age limits.
Tamtama
Enlisted entry, generally with its own age and qualification requirements distinct from Bintara.
Exam pattern
Selection follows a common multi-stage sequence regardless of route: an integrity pledge, administrative document screening, health examinations (Rikkes I and Rikkes II), psychological testing, an academic and competency test using a Computer Assisted Test (CAT) system, a physical fitness (jasmani) test, and a mental ideology/personality assessment, followed by a final central-level approval session (pantukhir).
Important dates
For the 2026 Bintara cycle, registration ran until 30 March 2026, with Rikkes II held 7–10 June, physical competency testing 11–15 June, psychology II and mental-personality assessment 16–20 June, central-level review 24–27 June, final approval on 3 July, and Bintara education beginning 20 July 2026.

Registration is online only, through penerimaan.polri.go.id, during the published window for the chosen route and recruitment cycle.
After the exam
Candidates who pass all stages and the final approval session begin route-specific education (academy, Bintara or Tamtama training) before being posted to operational police duty.
Preparation tips
Because health and physical stages (Rikkes I/II, jasmani, psychology) eliminate candidates at multiple points before the academic CAT test, building and maintaining fitness and health standards from the start of the process, alongside CAT-style academic test practice, reduces the risk of being screened out partway through.
