Overview
The European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) is an international proof-based contest for girls, with the aim of giving more girls a chance to perform mathematically on an international stage. It is held once a year, with dates that should fall in April, in a different European host country.

Who can take it
Contestants must be female and born less than 20 years before 1 April of the contest year. They must have been normally enrolled in full-time primary or secondary education on or after 1 December of the previous year, or, if home-schooled, must not hold a high-school diploma or equivalent. Participation is by invitation. Each invited country may send up to four contestants, a leader and a deputy leader, chosen through its national mathematical olympiad or an equivalent selection programme.
Exam pattern
There are two papers on two consecutive days. Each starts in the morning, lasts four and a half hours and has three problems, so six problems in total. Contestants work independently and use writing and drawing instruments only.
Marking and results
First, second and third prizes are awarded at the closing ceremony. A contestant without a prize receives an honourable mention if she scored seven points on at least one problem.
Important dates
The host changes each year. EGMO 2026 was hosted in Bordeaux, France, and the site lists EGMO 2027 in Sibenik, Croatia, and EGMO 2028 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
