Who can take it
Each member country may send up to six students, who must be attending high school and no older than 20, plus a leader and a deputy leader. Member countries are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, North Macedonia, Greece, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Turkey. Only member countries take part officially, and the host may invite others as unofficial participants.
Exam pattern
The contest is on one day and lasts 4.5 hours continuously. The paper has four problems, each worth 10 points, for 40 in total. Contestants work independently, may use only writing and drawing instruments, and may submit written questions to the jury in the first half hour.
Marking and results
First, second and third prizes go to about two thirds of contestants in a ratio close to 1:2:3. A contestant without a prize who has full marks on at least one problem receives an honourable mention.
Important dates
The contest is held once a year between 25 April and 10 May. The host rotates, and a member may host once it has taken part at least three times.
