Overview

The Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO) is an annual proof-based contest for school students in Pacific-Rim countries, including countries in Asia and the Americas. Each participating country runs it locally under common rules. The details below follow the 2025 procedures and regulations.

Who can take it

Contestants must have been born less than twenty years before 1 July of the contest year. They must have been normally enrolled in full-time primary or secondary education on or after 1 December of the previous year, or, if home-schooled, must not hold a high-school diploma or equivalent and must be working towards one on 1 December. Countries join with the support of an educational or mathematical body in their country.

Marking and results

Gold, silver and bronze award certificates are set from the mean and standard deviation of all scores, and no country may receive more than 1 gold, 3 gold and silver combined, or 7 awards in total. An honourable mention can go, for example, to a contestant with a perfect score on one problem or 5 or 6 points on two problems.

Important dates

In 2025 the contest was held on Monday 10 March (afternoon) for countries in Oceania and the Americas, and on Tuesday 11 March (morning) for countries in Asia and the western Pacific.
