Overview

The Polícia Militar do Estado de São Paulo (PM SP) recruits the entry rank of its uniformed police, now called Aluno-Soldado PM (earlier notices called it Soldado PM de 2ª Classe), through a public contest. The exam board is Fundação VUNESP. This page follows the notice published in the Diário Oficial do Estado de São Paulo on 3 June 2026, which offered 2,000 places for men and women. The official PM SP and VUNESP sites could not be opened with a verified connection when this page was checked, so the notice was read from a copy hosted by a preparation site. Confirm details on the PM SP and VUNESP sites.

Under the notice, no places are reserved for people with disabilities, because of the nature of police work.

To register, a candidate must:

  • be Brazilian;

  • be at least 17 and no older than 30, counted on the registration period;

  • be at least 1.60 m tall for men or 1.55 m for women, barefoot and uncovered (measured during the physical aptitude stage); and

  • pay the registration fee, unless exempt.

After the exam

Candidates who pass the written parts are called, in order of rank, to the physical, health, psychological, conduct and document stages. Those who clear all of them are appointed within the contest's validity period and attend the Curso de Formação de Praças. The notice gives starting pay of R$ 5,482.51 for 2026.

Preparation tips

  • Portuguese is the largest block with 20 of 60 questions, followed by Mathematics and General knowledge at 15 each.

  • Prepare for the essay as well, since it is eliminatory and separate from the 30-point objective cut-off.

  • Check your height, age and driving licence category against the notice before registering.

Is there an age limit?

Yes. The 2026 notice sets a minimum age of 17 and a maximum of 30.

Do I need a driving licence?

The notice requires a licence in a category from B to E in order to take office, and this is checked at the document analysis stage.
