TUS

Overview

TUS (Tıpta Uzmanlık Eğitimi Giriş Sınavı, the Medical Specialty Training Entrance Exam) is the ÖSYM exam that qualified doctors take to enter specialty (residency) training in Turkey. ÖSYM runs it twice a year, as a 1st period and a 2nd period exam. Results are used for a placement round, where candidates rank specialty programmes, and ÖSYM places them.

This page covers only what could be confirmed from ÖSYM's calendar and placement guide. The application guide for each period, which holds the full exam rules and syllabus, is published by ÖSYM before applications open.

Who can apply

Doctors apply for TUS. The placement guide states that a foreign-language proficiency requirement applies before a candidate can be placed, and candidates check their language exemption status under the rules in the application guide of the period. Dual citizens who hold Turkish citizenship cannot choose the quotas set aside for foreign nationals and should rank programmes as Turkish citizens. Some programmes, such as those run with the Ministry of National Defence or for candidates from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, are restricted to specific groups of candidates.

Important dates

For 2026, ÖSYM's calendar lists the following.

After the 1st period, an additional placement round was open from 24 to 29 June 2026, and a separate window for changing specialty (uzmanlık dalı değişikliği) ran from 20 to 23 August 2026. A similar change window for the 2025 2nd period ran from 11 to 15 March 2026.

Fees

For 2026, ÖSYM's placement guide for the 2nd period gives the additional (ek) placement fee as 170 TL, paid by card on the ÖSYM payment page. The exam fee is set in the application guide for each period, which was not available to confirm here.

How to apply

Application is made during the window in the ÖSYM calendar, under the rules in that period's application guide. For placement, candidates enter their programme choices online on the ÖSYM site during the preference period, and can change or cancel them until the period ends. ÖSYM does not accept petitions to change preferences afterwards.

After the exam

Placement uses the exam result and the candidate's ranked preferences. Candidates should check the programme tables published during the preference period, which show the lowest scores from the previous period's placement, and should make sure they meet the health conditions of the specialties they choose. If seats stay empty, ÖSYM holds an additional placement round and announces its dates on its website.
