TSC Kenya

Overview

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is the constitutional body responsible for registering, employing and managing teachers in Kenya's public schools. Registration with the TSC is required before a qualified teacher can be employed in a public school or apply for TSC recruitment.

Who can apply

Applicants for TSC registration must hold a teaching qualification recognised by the TSC (for example a Diploma in Teacher Education or a relevant Bachelor's degree with teaching qualification for secondary level), be Kenyan citizens or otherwise eligible to work in Kenya, and provide a certificate of good conduct and other standard employment clearances.

Exam pattern

TSC recruitment for teaching vacancies is generally conducted through shortlisting of registered, qualified teachers against advertised vacancies (by school and subject need), followed by an interview; there is no separate written entrance exam distinct from the academic teaching qualification itself.

How to apply

Teachers first apply for TSC registration online through the TSC's registration portal; once registered, they can apply for advertised teaching vacancies (both TSC-advertised posts and Teacher Internship Programme/replacement vacancies) through the same portal, within the stated application window.

After the exam

Candidates who are shortlisted and succeed at interview are employed by the TSC and posted to a specific public school, subject to the terms of that recruitment round (permanent, intern, or replacement posting).

Preparation tips

Because TSC registration is a prerequisite before any vacancy application, completing registration early — well before a specific recruitment round opens — avoids missing an application window while registration is still being processed.
