Overview

The Taiwan TVE here is the Unified Entrance Test for technological and vocational colleges (統一入學測驗, often shortened to 統測). It is run by the Testing Center for Technological and Vocational Education (技專校院入學測驗中心基金會, TCTE). There are two versions: one for admission to four-year technical universities and two-year junior colleges (四技二專), and one for admission to two-year university programmes (二技).

The test results are used by the various admission routes. The guide says that the entry requirements and how the results are used are set by each admission channel or school, not by the TCTE.

The facts below are from the 2026 cycle (115 學年度). The guide is in Chinese, and dates are converted to the Gregorian calendar. Check the TCTE site for the newest cycle's dates.

Who can apply

Anyone who meets the entry requirements of an admission channel or school for the four-year and two-year colleges can apply. Graduating students from technical senior high schools, vocational programmes and comprehensive high schools are registered as a group through their school. Other eligible candidates register individually online.

Exam pattern

Four-year and two-year colleges (四技二專)

Candidates sit exams in a vocational group (群) or category (類). There are 20 single groups and 6 cross-group options. Every candidate takes Chinese, English and Mathematics, plus two specialised subjects, Professional Subject (1) and Professional Subject (2), which depend on the group. Each subject is marked out of 100. Most questions are single-choice with no deduction for wrong answers. Chinese and English include some written-response questions, English Reading and Writing (for the English group) is partly written, and Professional Subject (2) for the Design group is a practical task.

Registration is complete only after the correct fee is paid.

The TCTE sends a score report and publishes score statistics. Admission to a college depends on the channels you apply through, and each channel decides how the scores are used, so check the admission brochures of the channels and schools you want.

What is the difference between the 四技二專 and 二技 tests?

The four-year and two-year college test is for admission to four-year technical universities and two-year junior colleges, and has 20 single groups plus cross-group options. The two-year university test is for 二技 programmes and has two categories: nursing and common.

Is there a penalty for wrong answers?

For the four-year and two-year college test, the multiple-choice questions are single-choice and wrong answers are not penalised.

Who sets the entry requirements?

Each admission channel or school sets its own. The TCTE runs the test but does not decide who is admitted.
