Overview
The Law Admission Test (LAT) is conducted by the Education Testing Council (ETC) of Pakistan's Higher Education Commission (HEC). The ETC was set up after the Supreme Court directed HEC in 2018 to run assessment tests for LLB admission and for the enrolment of law graduates with the Pakistan Bar Council. The LAT is open to candidates with 12 years of education, or equivalent, in any discipline.

How to apply
Create a profile on the ETC portal at etc.hec.gov.pk using your CNIC (or the NADRA juvenile card or B-Form number if under 18), then apply for the LAT from the dashboard. Pick a test city, which cannot be changed after registration, and pay the fee through 1Link or 1Bill using the consumer number generated on the portal. Check the portal for the current fee. On test day, bring a printed roll number slip and your original CNIC or passport, a transparent clipboard and a black or blue ball pen. Phones, smart watches, calculators and earbuds are not allowed.
Preparation tips
Prepare for the written part as well as the MCQs, since it carries 25 marks.
Cover English, general knowledge, Pakistan Studies, Islamiat and Urdu, which together make up most of the MCQs.
Can I take the LAT more than once?
The ETC runs the test several times a year, and each sitting has its own registration. The pages checked do not set a limit, so check the ETC portal for the current rules.
