Overview
The Engineering College Admission Test (ECAT) is the entry test run by the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore. For Fall 2026, UET states that ECAT is compulsory for Engineering, Computing, Architecture and related programmes. Business and science programmes classed as non-ECAT based do not need it. UET offers admission at its Lahore main campus, Faisalabad, Narowal, RCET Gujranwala and Kala Shah Kaku campuses.

Who can apply
Engineering, Architecture and Computer Engineering (NCEAC) programmes need at least 60% in Intermediate or equivalent.
Science, technology and business programmes need at least 50%.
FSc Pre-Medical students can apply for computing programmes.
Only Punjab-domiciled applicants (including ICT) can apply for open-merit seats unless a programme says otherwise. Some programmes, such as Mining, Textile and Biomedical Engineering, are offered on an All Pakistan basis.
A candidate needs an aggregate of at least 50% to be considered for admission.
Candidates with non-Pakistani board qualifications must submit an IBCC equivalence certificate if selected.
Exam pattern
The test lasts 100 minutes and carries 400 marks. The paper is made of 30-question subject sections plus a 10-question English section, and candidates pick the combination that matches their intermediate subjects.
| Subject | Questions |
|---|---|
| English (comprehension passage) | 10 |
| Physics | 30 |
| Mathematics (or Biology for pre-medical candidates) | 30 |
| Chemistry, Computer Science or Statistics | 30 |
The listed combinations are English with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry; Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science; Physics, Mathematics and Statistics; Physics, Biology and Chemistry; and Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science. DAE holders can choose only the Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Computer Science combinations.
Syllabus
Questions come from Intermediate, A Level or DAE topics and test problem solving with the concepts learned at that level. UET gives examples such as mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and work and energy in Physics, and differentiation, integration, linear algebra and trigonometry in Mathematics.
Marking and results
Each correct answer earns 4 marks and an unanswered question earns 0, out of a maximum of 400. The FAQ does not mention a penalty for wrong answers, and it says there is no minimum passing mark. UET publishes the merit formula on its admission portal.
Important dates
For the Fall 2026 second ECAT, the portal listed these dates (the admit card printing date it shows does not fit with the test window, so it is left out; the admit card tells you the date, time and venue):
fee payment and application deadline: 13 June 2026
test window: 16 to 21 June 2026
result: 30 June 2026
Undergraduate applications for UET programmes ran from 8 June to 15 July 2026.
Fees
For Fall 2026, the fee is Rs. 3,000, paid by challan, and one application covers several programmes. It cannot be refunded or transferred. Changing programme preferences between 12 and 14 July 2026 cost Rs. 1,500.
How to apply
Generate the fee challan on the ECAT portal, fill in the application form, print the admit card, and sit the test with the admit card and an original photo ID.
Is ECAT needed for every UET programme?
No. UET says non-ECAT-based business and science programmes do not require it.
