Overview

The Medical Education Common Entrance Examination for Bachelor Level programmes (MECEE-BL) is the common entrance exam run by Nepal's Medical Education Commission (MEC) for admission to health professional programmes at universities, affiliated colleges and health science academies across Nepal. Candidates apply online through the Commission's entrance registration portal. The 2027 cycle, whose exams fall in late 2026, is the latest. The Commission's portal carries notices on seat distribution and results, such as the MECEE-BL 2026 MBBS results notice published in November 2025. The portal's notice list did not yet show the 2027 notice when this page was reviewed, so the 2027 details below come from copies of the Commission's notices on EducateNepal and Edusanjal; confirm them with the Commission.

Levels or stages

Each programme group sits on its own day. For MECEE-BL 2027 the programmes were:

  • MBBS

  • BDS

  • BSc Nursing, BSc Midwifery, BASLP and B Perfusion Technology

  • BAMS, BNS/BMS, BSc MLT, BSc MIT, BSc Radiotherapy Technology, BPT, B Pharm and B Optometry

  • BPH

Candidates can apply for more than one programme.

Who can apply

For most programmes you need a +2 or Proficiency Certificate Level pass with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and at least 50% marks or 2.4 GPA, or A-Level with the same subjects and 50% or 2.4 GPA together with equivalency. Some programmes also accept health science certificates or diplomas with at least 50% marks, registered with the relevant council. BNS and BMS need a nursing Proficiency Certificate or diploma with at least 50% or 2.4 GPA, registered with the Nepal Nursing Council. Foreign candidates apply under a separate notice with their own seat shares.

Exam pattern

Per the Commission's 2027 notice, the exam for all programmes is a written, objective-type test with answers on an OMR sheet. It lasts three hours and carries 200 marks. Each right answer earns 1 mark and each wrong answer loses 0.25 marks. To enter the merit list, a candidate must score at or above the 50th percentile. If fewer than twice as many candidates sit as there are seats in a programme, candidates scoring 50% or more still enter the merit list.
