Note

The official UM-PTKIN portal and the PTKIN admissions site could not be reached directly from this environment while writing this page (both were blocked by network egress rules). The facts below are corroborated from multiple reputable Indonesian education-news outlets and PTKIN campus announcements reporting the committee's own published schedule, fees and results for 2026. Confirm exact dates, fees and programme-choice rules for your intake year directly on the official UM-PTKIN portal before registering.

Overview

UM-PTKIN (Ujian Masuk Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam Negeri) is a national, computer-based entrance test for admission into State Islamic Religious Higher Education institutions (PTKIN) - Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN), Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) and Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Negeri (STAIN) - run by Indonesia's Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kementerian Agama).

UM-PTKIN is separate from UTBK-SNBT, the general national test for public universities (PTN) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology. UM-PTKIN tests general scholastic aptitude alongside Islamic religious knowledge, and its registration fee is not covered by SNBT's KIP Kuliah fee waiver. A PTKIN candidate can also apply through SPAN-PTKIN, a school-record-based route (comparable to SNBP) open only to final-year students nominated by their school with no written test, run earlier in the admissions cycle and at no cost to the applicant. UM-PTKIN is the written-test route for everyone else, including earlier-year graduates.

For 2026, UM-PTKIN was administered across 59 PTKIN campuses nationwide and drew 64,479 participants.

Who can apply

For 2026, UM-PTKIN was open to:

  • Graduates of MA/MAK/SMA/SMK/SPM (madrasah aliyah, vocational and general senior secondary schools) or an equivalent, including Pendidikan Diniyah Formal (PDF) and Pendidikan Kesetaraan Pondok Pesantren Salafiyah (PKPPS) - pesantren-based equivalency tracks - from 2024, 2025 or 2026.

  • Candidates who graduated in 2024 or 2025 needed their ijazah or Surat Keterangan Lulus (SKL); 2026 graduates could register with an SKL, a graduation announcement, their national ID (KTP) or a student card.

  • Graduates of a Pesantren Mu'adalah (a pesantren whose diploma the Ministry of Religious Affairs has formally equated to a standard school diploma) were eligible, provided their ijazah's equivalence recognition was in place.

Every candidate needed a valid NISN (Nomor Induk Siswa Nasional), an active email address and an active WhatsApp number to register. UM-PTKIN, unlike SPAN-PTKIN, is open to graduates from more than one preceding year, not only the current year's final-year students.

Exam pattern

UM-PTKIN is sat in one sitting on a computer, through the committee's Seleksi Sistem Elektronik (SSE). For 2026, the test combined general scholastic-aptitude sub-tests with an Islamic religious-knowledge component:

Sub-testFocusQuestionsDuration
Tes Bakat SkolastikGeneral scholastic/reasoning aptitude3040 minutes
Literasi Bahasa IndonesiaIndonesian-language literacy810 minutes
Literasi Bahasa InggrisEnglish-language literacy810 minutes
Literasi Bahasa ArabArabic-language literacy810 minutes
Literasi NumerasiNumeracy/quantitative reasoning1015 minutes
Literasi Ajaran IslamIslamic teachings: Quran, Hadith, Fiqh, Islamic history and religious moderation3025 minutes
Kemampuan Dasar Baca-Tulis Al-Qur'anBasic Quran reading and writing ability610 minutes

In total, the 2026 test ran to 100 questions across roughly 120 minutes (some sources report a slightly different combined total and duration for specific test variants). The religious- knowledge sections (Literasi Ajaran Islam and basic Quran reading/writing) are what sets UM-PTKIN apart from a general scholastic test like UTBK-SNBT.

Marking and results

Each candidate receives sub-test scores and an overall UM-PTKIN score. Results are used by each chosen PTKIN to rank candidates against other applicants for the specific study programme (prodi) and campus they selected, rather than against one fixed national cut-off - the same ranking logic SNBT uses for PTN programmes, applied here within the PTKIN network.

For 2026, UM-PTKIN results were announced simultaneously on 30 June 2026 at 15:00 WIB, through the committee's dedicated results portal. Candidates checked their outcome by entering their exam participant number.

Important dates

For 2026, the published UM-PTKIN schedule was:

  • Registration and fee payment opened: 13 April 2026.

  • Registration and fee payment closed: 30 May 2026, 15:00 WIB (payment window extended to 23:59 WIB the same day for those who had already started paying).

  • Finalisation of registration: until 3 June 2026, 16:00 WIB.

  • SSE computer-based exam: 8-9 June 2026 (reported elsewhere as a wider 8-14 June window for some test variants/locations).

  • Results announcement: 30 June 2026, 15:00 WIB.

Exact dates are set by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the UM-PTKIN committee each year; candidates should check the current UM-PTKIN portal before relying on a specific date.

Fees

For 2026, the UM-PTKIN registration fee was Rp200,000, paid independently by the candidate through a partner bank during the registration window. The fee is non-refundable once paid. Unlike UTBK-SNBT, UM-PTKIN's registration fee is not covered by the KIP Kuliah (Kartu Indonesia Pintar Kuliah) fee-waiver scheme, since PTKIN campuses sit under the Ministry of Religious Affairs rather than the ministry that administers that SNBT-linked waiver. A candidate who passes UM-PTKIN and enrols can still apply for and receive KIP Kuliah support for their studies after admission.

How to apply

  1. Register independently on the official UM-PTKIN portal using NISN, an active email address and an active WhatsApp number.

  2. Pay the registration fee through a partner bank within the payment window; registration is not complete until payment is confirmed.

  3. Complete the registration form, choosing up to 3 study programmes (prodi) at one or more PTKIN campuses, ranked by preference, and selecting a preferred exam location.

  4. Finalise the registration before the finalisation deadline - an unfinalised registration is not entered into the exam.

  5. Download the exam participant card showing the assigned test location, date and session.

  6. Sit the SSE computer-based exam at the assigned PTKIN or partner test location on the scheduled date.

After the exam

The UM-PTKIN committee announces results simultaneously for all candidates on the published results date, through its results portal. Each PTKIN ranks candidates for its own chosen study programmes using their UM-PTKIN score. Candidates declared successful must then complete document verification and academic registration (daftar ulang) directly with their admitting campus; each campus sets its own verification deadline and required documents, so successful candidates are urged to act quickly. A candidate not admitted through UM-PTKIN can still apply to individual PTKIN campuses through that campus's own independent (Jalur Mandiri) admission route, where one is offered.

Preparation tips

  • Practise both halves of the test: general scholastic/literacy/numeracy questions as well as Islamic-knowledge questions on Quran, Hadith, Fiqh and Islamic history, since both count toward the overall score.

  • Review basic Quran reading and writing, a distinct scored component separate from the Islamic-knowledge literacy questions.

  • Practise timed sets for each sub-test separately, since each one has its own short time limit rather than one long combined timer.

  • Research the typical competitiveness and seat numbers of your target PTKIN campuses and programmes before ranking your up-to-3 choices, since programme and campus choice affects how your score is ranked against other applicants.

  • If you were not selected through SPAN-PTKIN, UM-PTKIN remains open to you as a separate written-test route into the same PTKIN network.

FAQs

What is the difference between UM-PTKIN and UTBK-SNBT?

UTBK-SNBT is the general national entrance test for public universities (PTN) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology. UM-PTKIN is a separate test, run by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, specifically for admission into State Islamic Religious Higher Education institutions (UIN/IAIN/STAIN). UM-PTKIN also tests Islamic religious knowledge and basic Quran reading/writing alongside scholastic aptitude, which UTBK-SNBT does not.

What is the difference between SPAN-PTKIN and UM-PTKIN?

SPAN-PTKIN is a school-record-based route into the same PTKIN network, open only to current-year final-year students nominated by their school, with no written test and no fee. UM-PTKIN is the written-test route, run later in the cycle, open to graduates from more than one preceding year, with a registration fee and a computer-based exam.

Can a pesantren graduate apply to UM-PTKIN?

Yes. Graduates of Pendidikan Diniyah Formal (PDF) and Pendidikan Kesetaraan Pondok Pesantren Salafiyah (PKPPS), as well as Pesantren Mu'adalah graduates whose ijazah equivalence has been formally recognised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, are eligible alongside MA/SMA/SMK graduates, subject to the same graduation-year and document requirements.

Can I use KIP Kuliah to pay the UM-PTKIN registration fee?

No. The UM-PTKIN registration fee must be paid independently; it is not covered by the KIP Kuliah fee-waiver scheme, which applies to SNBT-linked PTN registration. A candidate who passes UM-PTKIN and enrols can still apply for KIP Kuliah support for their studies after admission.
