Overview

The Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School (AFAPS, โรงเรียนเตรียมทหาร) is a senior high school in Nakhon Nayok Province, Thailand, run under the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters. It was founded on 27 January 1958 and prepares cadets for the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy (Army), the Royal Thai Naval Academy, the Royal Thai Air Force Academy and the Royal Thai Police Cadet Academy. Graduates who complete the course are reported to gain entry to one of these four academies.

Who can apply

Programme structure

Cadets follow a two-year senior high school programme combining academics with military training. The academic focus is on science, mathematics and pre-engineering, with courses in English, Chinese, mathematics, history and social science, laboratory science, art, music and religious studies. On designated training days the time is split between sport and health education in the morning and military science in the afternoon.

The school is organised into four pre-cadet battalions linked to the Army, Navy, Air Force and Police.

Competition

Reports state that more than 70,000 applicants compete each year and over 600 are accepted, an acceptance rate below 1 percent.
