Who can enter
Students in 3rd to 5th year at Irish secondary schools can enter Round 1. Tell your maths teacher by mid-November, or contact your nearest Mathematics Enrichment centre if your school has not registered.
Levels or stages
Round 1
The qualifying round is held in secondary schools in November. No formal study is needed; creative and logical thinking is enough.
Round 2
The national round takes place the following April or May at the Maths Enrichment centres (UCC, UL, NUIG, NUIM and UCD). Invitations are typically based on Round 1 performance.
After the competition
The six top students from the national round form the IMO team and attend five training camps before the contest. For EGMO, selection is through competitions run at the Mathematics Enrichment centres.
Preparation tips
The Trust recommends practice contests such as PRISM, which is held in October.
