Who can apply
Candidates must have passed Matriculation (Grade 10) with science subjects, typically with a minimum aggregate percentage set by the admitting polytechnic institute or board, to be eligible for DAE admission.
Exam pattern
DAE is studied over three years (six semesters) at a government or affiliated polytechnic institute, combining theory papers in engineering subjects with practical workshop and laboratory assessments each semester, set and examined by the relevant provincial board of technical education.
Marking and results
Students must pass both theory and practical components in each semester to progress, and complete all semesters to be awarded the DAE in their chosen technology.
How to apply
Candidates apply directly to a polytechnic institute affiliated with their provincial board of technical education, meeting the Matriculation science requirement for admission.
After the exam
DAE holders can enter the workforce as associate/sub-engineers or apply for lateral entry into relevant bachelor's degree engineering technology programmes, subject to each university's admission criteria.
