Overview

The Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) is Ghana's national body for regulating and coordinating technical and vocational education and training (TVET). It oversees the Competency-Based Training (CBT) system used across TVET institutions in Ghana, and certifies learners through the Ghana TVET Qualifications Framework.

Who can apply

CTVET-regulated programmes are offered through technical institutes, vocational training centres and TVET-track senior high schools across Ghana, open to learners who meet the entry requirements of the individual institution and programme, which vary by trade and level.

Levels or stages

The Ghana TVET Qualifications Framework is structured in levels, from foundational certificate levels through to higher technical diplomas, allowing learners to progress step by step within a trade as they gain competencies, rather than sitting one single national exam.

Exam pattern

Assessment under the Competency-Based Training approach focuses on whether a learner can demonstrate the practical skills and knowledge set out in the relevant national qualification standard for their trade, rather than relying only on a single written exam. Assessment combines practical, workplace-style tasks with underpinning theory checks specific to each trade.

How to apply

Candidates apply directly to a CTVET-accredited TVET institution or training centre offering the programme and trade they want to study.
