Overview

The Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) is the statutory body that affiliates technical institutions, prescribes courses, registers students, runs the examinations and issues diplomas and certificates. It was set up in 1954 as a board of examination and became a statutory board in 1967 under its earlier name, East Pakistan Technical Education Board. The sources are in Bengali and English.

This page covers the diploma level, mainly the four-year diploma-in-engineering family. BTEB also runs other levels such as SSC (vocational), HSC (vocational and business management), certificate courses and short courses.

Who can apply

For the 2026-2027 session, first phase, in government institutions, the action plan says candidates who passed SSC or an equivalent exam from 2022 to 2026 can apply. Candidates with O-level results need to have them recognised as equivalent by the Dhaka education board first. The admission policy sets programme-specific eligibility, which is available on the official site.

Programmes and structure

The four-year diploma programmes named in the 2026-2027 action plan are: engineering, marine engineering, textile engineering, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, livestock, and tourism and hospitality management. Diploma courses run in semesters (porbo). The textile engineering guidance refers to an industrial attachment in the 8th semester. BTEB publishes the syllabus, course structure and regulations for each, with 2022 regulations listed for engineering, the agriculture family and textile engineering, and a 2026 version for diploma in technical education.

How to apply

Apply online through the BTEB admission website and follow the online admission guidelines on the admission policy page. After the application, download the admit card.

After the exam

Results and merit rounds are published on the BTEB admission pages. Selected students confirm their seat, and choice filling for vacant seats is open to those who could not confirm in the first two rounds. The board later conducts the diploma exams, publishes results and awards the diploma.

Is BTEB a single entrance exam?

BTEB runs an admission test for government diploma institutions each session. It is also the examining body for the diploma courses themselves.
