Overview
JAIIB (Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers) and CAIIB (Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers) are the two flagship banking qualifications of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF). They are taken in sequence by people already working in banking and finance.
JAIIB is the entry-level qualification. It builds the working knowledge needed for day-to-day banking: the financial system, banking practice, accounting, retail banking, wealth management, digital products and customer relations.
CAIIB is the advanced qualification, open only after JAIIB. It covers decision-making areas such as treasury, risk, balance sheet and credit management, financial management, international banking and business law.

Passing criteria and results
The rules are the same for JAIIB and CAIIB:
You pass a paper by scoring at least 50 out of 100.
You also complete the exam if, in a single attempt, you score at least 45 in every paper and 50% in aggregate across all papers.
Papers you pass are credited and kept until your time limit runs out.
Class of pass is based on your first attempt: First Class needs 60% aggregate with all papers passed, and First Class with Distinction needs 70% aggregate with at least 60 in every paper. Everyone else who passes gets a Pass Class.
Validity
You get 5 attempts within 3 years of registering for your first attempt, whichever limit comes first. The attempts need not be back to back, and an attempt counts as soon as you apply, even if you do not sit the exam. If you run out of time or attempts, you must enrol again from scratch and lose any paper credits.

How to apply
Become an ordinary member of IIBF through your employer, if you are not one already.
Register online on iibf.org.in during the registration window for the session you want, choosing your language and, for CAIIB, your elective.
Download the admit letter and sit each paper online at your allotted centre.
Preparation tips
Study from IIBF's own courseware for each paper, sold through its publishers, and use IIBF's e-learning where offered.
Keep up with RBI master circulars and directions, and IIBF publications such as IIBF Vision and Bank Quest; questions can be set on recent developments not named in the syllabus.
Plan your attempts carefully, since every application counts against your 5-attempt limit even if you miss the exam.
FAQs
Do I need JAIIB before CAIIB?
Yes. CAIIB is open only to IIBF members who have completed JAIIB, or Part 1 of the older Associate Examination.
Can I take JAIIB if I do not work in a bank?
No. JAIIB is open only to ordinary members of IIBF, and ordinary membership is for people working in banking and finance whose employer is an institutional member of IIBF.
Is there negative marking in JAIIB or CAIIB?
No. Neither exam deducts marks for wrong answers.
What happens to papers I pass if I fail others?

INR 4,000 for the first attempt and INR 1,300 for each later attempt, plus convenience charges and GST. Registering after the first week of the window adds INR 100 or INR 200.
