Overview
The driving theory test in Turkey is the computer-based e-Sınav for driver course trainees, run by the Ministry of National Education (MEB). It is taken after you finish the theory lessons at a private motor vehicle driver course (Özel MTSK). Passing it lets you start the practical driving lessons. This page follows the MEB's 2026 application and implementation guide, which is written in Turkish.
The same test pattern applies to all certificate classes covered by the guide: M, A1, A2, A, B1, B, F and G.

Who can take it
You must be registered at a private driver course and have completed its theory training. Your course makes the application for you, through the ministry's MEBBİS system, after you pay the fee. The guide lists three conditions: theory training finished, fee paid, and an exam appointment made through the e-Sınav appointment system.
Foreign candidates, and Turkish citizens who studied abroad and do not know Turkish, can sit the test in a foreign language, after completing theory training through an interpreter. The course must record this choice at least 48 hours before the appointment, or the questions appear in Turkish.
Exam pattern
| Subject | Questions |
|---|---|
| First aid | 12 |
| Traffic and environment | 23 |
| Vehicle technique | 9 |
| Traffic etiquette | 6 |
| Total | 50 |
The test lasts 45 minutes. Deaf or hard-of-hearing candidates get 15 extra minutes and can watch sign-language videos of the questions, if their status was recorded at least 48 hours ahead.
Marking and results
Every question carries equal marks, and wrong answers do not reduce the score. The score is correct answers divided by total questions, times 100. A score of 70 or more passes, which means at least 35 correct answers out of 50.
Results appear at a kiosk at the exam centre or on the e-Sınav site once your session ends. Your course also receives the results list.
Fees
The guide states a 2026 fee of 1,250 Turkish lira (TL) including VAT for each exam session. It is paid to the MEB revolving fund account at Ziraat Bank, Vakıflar Bank or Halk Bank, or by card through the ministry's payment site. If you book an appointment and do not attend, the fee is not refunded. An objection to a result costs 75 TL including VAT in 2026.
How to apply
Finish the theory lessons at your driver course.
Pay the exam fee and give the receipt to the course.
The course applies for you, and the education directorate checks your file and photo.
The system assigns the nearest available date and time. You may change the appointment only with a documented excuse, at least 24 hours before the exam.
Exam day
Arrive at least 30 minutes before the start. Bring your exam entry document and valid photo ID. Turkish ID card holders need no stamps or signatures on the entry document, while holders of other ID need the course and education directorate stamps and signatures. Phones, watches, bags, notes and similar items are not allowed in the room.
After the exam
Passing gives you the right to join the practical driving lessons at the course. If you do not use the appointment, it counts as a used exam attempt. Once your attempts run out, you must register at a driver course again.
Appeals
You can object to a result or question within 5 calendar days of the results being published, through the ministry's online objection module after paying the fee. Question and answer sets are not published.
How many questions do I need to get right?
A score of 70 passes. With 50 questions of equal value, that is 35 correct answers.
Do wrong answers take marks away?
No. The guide says wrong answers are not counted against you.
Can I take the test in another language?
Foreign candidates, and Turkish citizens who studied abroad and do not know Turkish, can sit it in foreign languages set by the ministry. The course must record the choice 48 hours before the exam.
