Overview

The Serbian driving exam has a theory test and a practical test. The rules are set by a ministerial regulation on organising and conducting the driving exam. This page is based on the text of that regulation as shown on the Paragraf legal database, which lists amendments up to Official Gazette No. 112/2017, because the official gazette database is a JavaScript-only page and the Ministry of Interior (MUP) site could not be read. Later amendments may apply. Confirm current details with your driving school or the ministry.

The exam is organised by a company, branch or secondary vocational school that holds a licence to train driver candidates, not by one national exam centre. The theory test is taken after theory training, and the practical test after practical training. The practical test can only start once you meet the legal age requirement.

Exam pattern

ItemDetail
FormatComputer test in a classroom of the organising entity
QuestionsDrawn at random from a total pool, covering the theory training programme
ScoringEach question carries a stated number of points; the total is the sum of the points for correct answers
Time45 minutes
SupervisionOnly candidates and exam board or supervising staff are in the room; the whole test is recorded on audio and video

Candidates for categories BE, C1E, CE, D1E and DE do not take the theory test.

The test starts after the exam board explains how to solve the test and how the exam works. The regulation does not state a fixed number of questions, so it is not listed here.

Marking and results

A candidate passes ("polozio") the theory test with at least 85% of the total points. If you use banned aids (textbooks, notes, a phone or other communication device), do not follow the instructions, help other candidates or disturb the exam, the examiner removes you and the exam is marked as failed. If you quit or leave a started exam, it is marked as failed and your points are set to zero.

If you fail, the exam board tells you your mistakes and, on request, gives you a copy of the exam record.

Practical test

The practical test is held on a training ground and on public roads, as a single exam. A random task is assigned to each candidate from the organiser's pool of tasks (each organiser must have at least 15). You pass when both examiners give a positive mark.

How to apply

You apply for each theory or practical sitting through the information system for training driver candidates (ISO), logging in with a user name and password. The application is accepted once your payment of the exam costs to the ministry is recorded, either in ISO or through a written proof of payment that the organiser enters.

The ministry sets the exam dates for the next month by the 15th of each month. As a rule there are at least two theory dates, each with one sitting, or at least one date with two or more sittings.

If you cancel at least 3 days before the scheduled date, the costs you paid are credited toward your next sitting. The same applies if the theory test could not be held because the connection to ISO was lost.
