Naturalisation Exam (Peru)Peru Naturalización

Country:
Peru

Checked against official sources on 2 October 2026.

Overview

The Peruvian naturalisation exam is one step in the procedure for obtaining Peruvian nationality by naturalisation, which is run by the National Superintendency of Migration (Migraciones) under the Ministry of the Interior. The procedure page says only that applicants must take an evaluation exam and keep meeting the conditions and requirements during the process. The sources read for this page, in Spanish, do not publish the exam's format, length, number of questions or pass mark, so none are given here.

Peru's nationality law is also changing. Migraciones announced on 16 August 2025 that the new Nationality Law (Law 32421) lists, among the general requirements for nationality, an evaluation of language and of knowledge of history, geography, the Constitution, culture and current affairs. The law takes effect the day after its regulation is published. The procedure page, last changed on 27 January 2026, still described the earlier rules. Check Migraciones for the rules in force on the day you apply.

Who can apply

Important

Two residence rules are in play. The Migraciones procedure page (last changed 27 January 2026) still states 2 consecutive years of legal residence. The new Nationality Law 32421 sets 5 continuous years, but it only applies from the day after its regulation is published. The sources read here do not say whether that has happened, so confirm with Migraciones which rule applies to your filing date. Under the new law, procedures already in progress continue under the previous law.

Under the procedure page, you can apply if you are a foreigner over 18 with at least 2 consecutive years of legal residence in Peru before filing, according to your migration status. You must show a valid foreigner card (carnet de extranjeria) or identity card issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with current residence.

The new law, once in force, raises the residence requirement for naturalisation from 2 years to 5 continuous years immediately before applying, according to Migraciones. It also requires lawful income of 10 UIT a year with formal tax compliance, a valid passport from your country of origin, and an INTERPOL background check.

Exam pattern

The evaluation is a required step before nationality is granted. The sources do not describe its sections or format.

Syllabus

The 2025 Migraciones notice names the subjects to be assessed under the new law: language, history, geography, the Constitution, culture and current affairs of Peru.

Fees

As listed on the Migraciones page in 2026, the processing fee for naturalisation is PEN 301.50, paid with code 07564 at a Banco de la Nacion branch or on the pagalo.pe site. Migraciones lists no separate fee for the exam in the sources read.

How to apply

  1. Pay the processing fee.

  2. Enter the Migraciones Digital Agency with your details, choose Mesa de Partes, upload all documents as PDF files and complete the registration.

  3. Documents include the PA-Nacionalidad form, proof of payment, a copy of your passport, a sworn statement on health, residence and absence of criminal records, proof of minimum income (10 UIT, listed as PEN 55,000 a year), an INTERPOL exchange record issued within the last 6 months, and a legalised or apostilled birth certificate. Extra documents depend on your migration status (religious worker, employee, investor or self-employed).

The page says Migraciones sends its decision to your registered email within 30 working days, though the clock is suspended at certain stages. The 2025 notice says that under the new law procedures can take up to 18 months, extendable by 6.

After the exam

If the application is approved, Migraciones contacts you with the date, time and place of a special ceremony. There you take an oath and receive the nationality title, which you then take to RENIEC to obtain your national identity document (DNI).

Is there an official question bank?

The sources read for this page do not mention one. Ask Migraciones directly about how the evaluation is held and what to study.
