Overview

Likhit is the written test for a Nepal driving licence. It is run by the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, through the transport management offices (TMOs) across the country. The written test is the first stage; a practical (trial) test follows. This page covers the written test for the two categories whose question banks DoTM publishes: Category A (motorcycle, scooter, moped), Category K (scooter, moped) and Category B (car, jeep, delivery van).

The DoTM documents use the Bikram Sambat (BS) calendar. The "fiscal year 2082/2083" edition of the question banks corresponds roughly to 2025/26 in the Gregorian calendar.

Exam pattern

The same pattern is set for Category A, K and B in the DoTM instructions to offices, under the Driving License Examination Operating Procedure Guidelines, 2077 BS, in use since 1 Jestha 2078 BS (mid-May 2021).

Syllabus

There is no separate syllabus. The published question collection is the syllabus: all 500 questions with their correct answers are available on the DoTM website, with one collection for Category A and K and one for Category B, each revised for fiscal year 2082/2083 BS. Question papers must use only these questions, so learning the collection and the reasoning behind each answer covers the test. Traffic signal questions use pictures of road signs.

Marking and results

Marks are 4 per correct question. A candidate needs at least 60 out of 100 to pass the written test. DoTM states the practical test follows the stages in the guidelines, with a pass mark of 70 percent or more, though this can depend on the policy of the TMO and provincial law.

Fees and dates

Fees and test dates are handled by each TMO and were not stated in the documents read for this page, so check with the TMO where you apply.

Preparation tips

  • Study the whole official question collection for your category, not just a sample, since every paper is drawn from it.

  • Give extra time to vehicle operation and traffic signals; these two areas carry 24 marks each.

  • Download the collection for your category from the DoTM site.

Is the written test the same for a car and a motorcycle?

The format is the same: 25 questions, 30 minutes and a 60 mark pass. The question collection differs, with one for Category A and K and one for Category B.
