Overview

In Egypt, knowledge of traffic rules is tested as part of the technical test for a driving licence, run by the Ministry of Interior's Traffic Department, rather than as a separate national theory exam.

Who can take it

Applicants must show proof of identity, residence and age, and a certificate of completing schooling or a literacy certificate. The technical test takes place after medical fitness is confirmed.

Exam pattern

The technical test covers driving the vehicle category being licensed, plus traffic rules, etiquette, signals and signs. It starts with an oral test on traffic rules and etiquette, especially road signs and signals, and the basic principles of vehicle mechanics.

Syllabus

Licensed driving schools and centres teach traffic law and its regulations, traffic rules and etiquette, signals, principles of driving, basics of vehicle mechanics and first aid.

How to apply

Applications go through the local traffic licensing department. The official pages could not be read in full when checked, so confirm current fees, documents and the exact test format with your local traffic department.

Important

Test format and fees may differ between governorates. Confirm details with the Traffic Department before applying.

Is there a written theory test?

The official regulation describes an oral test on rules, signs and basic mechanics as part of the technical test.
