After the exam

The physical licence has no expiry date and stays valid while the digital licence is valid. Drivers must renew their fitness certification periodically: every 5 years from age 21 to 65, every 3 years after 65, and every year after 70. New drivers display a beginner sign for 6 months and may not drive in downtown areas, highways or semi-highways during this period.

Preparation tips

  • Study the road signs and the national traffic rules used in the course.

  • Practise with the mock question booklets that provincial and municipal authorities publish, as they follow the same exam structure.

  • Remember that eliminatory questions can fail you even if the overall score reaches 80%.

Note

Fees, booking and the exact steps vary by province and municipality, which issue the licence. Check with your local licensing office.
