Overview
The General English Proficiency Test (GEPT, known in Taiwan as 全民英檢) is run by the Language Training and Testing Center (LTTC) in Taiwan. It is used for school and university credit, admission, graduation requirements, study abroad and employment. The LTTC site says about 120 Taiwanese universities and colleges use it as a graduation English requirement or for exemption from first-year English, and that more than 90 foreign universities accept it as proof of English for degree, exchange or short programmes in Taiwan. This page is based on the Chinese-language official pages.

Levels or stages
The test timetable lists four levels, each with its own sittings.
| Level | Chinese name | Sittings listed |
|---|---|---|
| Elementary | 初級 | Listening and reading; speaking and writing |
| Intermediate | 中級 | Listening and reading (also as a one-day test); speaking and writing |
| High-Intermediate | 中高級 | Listening and reading (also as a one-day test); speaking and writing |
| Advanced | 高級 | Listening and reading; speaking and writing |
Exam pattern
Each level has a listening and reading sitting and a separate speaking and writing sitting. The Intermediate and High-Intermediate levels also offer a one-day option (一日考) that covers all four skills in one day, which test takers describe as saving travel time. Question counts, timing and passing scores are not stated on the pages read.
