Overview
The Arabic Language Proficiency Test (ALPT) is run by Arab Academy. It is a computer-adaptive test (CAT), which means the difficulty adjusts to your answers. Institutions use it for placement and assessment, and individuals can take it for a certification for education or employment.

Exam pattern
The test has five components: listening, reading, grammar, writing and speaking.
| Component | Format |
|---|---|
| Listening | Multiple choice |
| Reading | Multiple choice |
| Grammar | Multiple choice |
| Writing | Open-ended |
| Speaking | Conducted by an Arabic instructor |
The length varies, because the test keeps going until it can judge your level. The page gives no fixed duration, scoring scale or fee.
How to apply
The test runs on Arab Academy's servers, so you need a computer and internet connection. It may only start with an Arab Academy registered instructor or invigilator present. Contact Arab Academy to arrange a sitting.
Preparation tips
Prepare all five areas, including a spoken interview.
Because the test adapts, do not expect a fixed set of questions; broad practice works better than memorising items.
Is ALPT a pass or fail test?
The Arab Academy page does not describe a pass mark. It is a proficiency measure; ask the institution requiring it what level it needs.
