Overview

The Zambia Police Service recruits constables through public adverts, not through a fixed national exam. When the Service opens a round, applicants write to a Commissioner of Police in their province (division), and the Service selects from the applications.

No recruitment notice with exam facts could be found on the Zambia Police Service website pages that were read. The only readable source was a job-board copy of the Service's constable advert from November 2022, so the details below describe that round and may have changed. Check the Service's own current advert before applying. This page is short for that reason.

Who can apply

The November 2022 advert asked for applicants who were:

  • Zambian citizens.

  • Between 18 and 25 years old.

  • Holders of a full Grade 12 school certificate with five "O" levels, including at least a credit in English language, Mathematics and any science subject.

  • Physically and mentally fit for service.

  • Single, of good character and with no criminal record.

  • Ready to undergo a full medical examination.

The advert said applicants with extra qualifications and at least two years of experience in a trade or field such as bricklaying, plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, welding, auto mechanics or ICT would have an advantage. People who had applied to the defence or other security institutions were told not to apply.

How to apply

In 2022, applicants:

  1. Wrote the application by hand.

  2. Delivered it in person, or by Express Mail Service (EMS), to the Commissioner of Police at the divisional headquarters in their area. The advert listed offices for the Lusaka, Central, Muchinga, Copperbelt, North Western, Luapula, Southern, Western, Eastern and Northern divisions. Police headquarters did not accept applications.

  3. Enclosed a certified copy of the National Registration Card and certified copies of academic certificates, or a statement of results for those who had just completed Grade 12.

  4. Gave clear postal and residential addresses and active mobile numbers.

Important dates

The deadline for the 2022 round was 2 December 2022. No dates for a later round were found in the source read.

Fees

The advert did not mention an application fee.

Preparation tips

  • Prepare certified copies of your NRC and Grade 12 results in advance.

  • Check that your results meet the credit requirements in English, Mathematics and a science subject.

  • Watch for the Service's own announcement and apply only through the divisional offices it names.

Is there a written exam for the Zambia Police?

The advert read for this page did not describe a written exam. It said applicants apply by hand-written letter and undergo a full medical examination. Check the current advert for the selection steps.

What age limit applied in the 2022 round?
