Overview
The Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) recruits through announcements on its own website rather than one fixed annual exam. This page covers two intakes: Officer Cadets, who are graduates, and Constable Recruits. The vacancies page also carries other recruitments, such as engineers. Each intake has its own notice with its own numbers of vacancies, so always read the current notice.
Levels or stages
Officer Cadets
The 2025 announcement offered 12 vacancies (10 for men, 2 for women). For the 2026 intake, RBP announced 20 vacancies (12 men, 8 women) in April 2026. Conditions in the 2025 notice:
Bhutanese citizen with a Citizenship Identity Card (CID) and a valid security clearance certificate.
No criminal record.
Aged 18 to 25 on the date of registration, with age checked against the CID.
Minimum height of 5 feet 5 inches for men and 5 feet 3 inches for women.
A bachelor's degree (10+2+3) from a university recognised by the Royal University of Bhutan.
A pass in the Bhutan Civil Service Examination with 50 percent or more.
Physically and medically fit, and unmarried.
Candidates already in service elsewhere need a No Objection Certificate.
Applicants register online on the RBP website and upload their documents in a single PDF during the registration window. For 2025 that window ran from 21 March to 19 April. In 2026, RBP held a document and height screening on 26 May at the RBP Officers' Mess in Thimphu, then shortlisted candidates for a physical test and a medical examination, and announced results on 5 June 2026.
Constable Recruits
For 2026, RBP shortlisted 600 constable recruit applicants (400 men, 200 women) and called them to the RBP Officers' Mess on 12 March 2026 with originals and photocopies of their Class X and XII certificates, CID, security clearance, and a No Objection Letter if employed. The height minimums were the same as for officer cadets: 5 feet 5 inches for men and 5 feet 3 inches for women. Results were announced on 27 March 2026.
Documents to prepare
Citizenship Identity Card and valid security clearance certificate.
Class X and XII certificates and mark sheets.
Degree certificates and mark sheets (officer cadets).
Bhutan Civil Service Examination result (officer cadets).
Medical fitness certificate from a competent government doctor.
No Objection Certificate, if already employed.
Preparation tips
Check your height and fitness early, since screening includes a height check and a physical test.
Keep a valid security clearance certificate ready, as it is needed at registration.
Wear national dress for screening days, as the notices ask.
Arrive on time to screening, as the notices set a fixed reporting time and venue.

RBP does not publish a fixed yearly calendar. Dates, vacancy numbers, and criteria change with each notice, so check the vacancies page on the RBP website.
