Who can apply
For the PY 2026 cycle, candidates had to be 21 to 30 years old as on April 1, 2026 (born between April 2, 1996 and April 1, 2005), with the usual relaxations for SC/ST (5 years), OBC (3 years) and other reserved categories. Minimum qualification for the General cadre was graduation with at least 60% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwBD) or post-graduation with at least 55% marks (pass marks for SC/ST/PwBD). DEPR requires a Master's in Economics/Finance (or related, "Economics"/"Finance" as the principal subject) with at least 55% marks; DSIM requires a Master's or four-year Bachelor's in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science or related fields, also at 55% (60% for the Bachelor's route). General-category candidates who have already attempted the Phase-I exam for this post six times are not eligible to apply again; SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates have no such attempt limit.
Exam pattern
| Cadre | Phase I | Phase II | Final stage |

For the PY 2026 General cadre, Phase-II covered Paper I (Economic and Social Issues) and Paper III (General Finance and Management) among its papers. Selected candidates are ranked using Phase-II and Interview scores; individual scorecards and category-wise cut-offs are published only after the full selection process ends.
Fees
For PY 2026: General/OBC/EWS candidates paid ₹850 plus 18% GST as application fee including intimation charges; SC/ST/PwBD candidates paid ₹100 plus 18% GST as intimation charges only; RBI staff candidates were exempt.
Important dates
For PY 2026: online registration ran from April 29 to May 20, 2026. The Phase-I exam for the General cadre was held on June 13, 2026, and DEPR/DSIM Phase-I on June 14, 2026. Phase-II for all three cadres was held on July 25–26, 2026. How to apply
Applications are submitted online only through rbi.org.in, following the instructions in the specific year's detailed notice; no other mode is accepted. RBI's Current Vacancies page (opportunities.rbi.org.in) is where the Bank posts recruitment notices, including Grade B, and should be treated as the live source for whether a fresh cycle is open. As of this review, that page listed only contract-based specialist engagements (Medical Consultants, a Director post, Site Engineers) and no open Grade B (DR) notification, consistent with the PY 2026 cycle being in its interview stage.
Pay and service conditions
Selected officers start at a basic pay of ₹78,450 per month in the Grade B pay scale, with initial gross monthly emoluments (excluding HRA) of approximately ₹1,54,936 for the PY 2026 cycle, plus allowances, RBI accommodation (subject to availability) and other perquisites. Initial appointment is on probation for two years, extendable up to four years at the Bank's discretion, and selected candidates can be posted anywhere in India.
Preparation tips
Because RBI revises vacancy numbers, dates, fees and sometimes the paper structure for each Panel Year, always confirm the current cycle's detailed notice on rbi.org.in or opportunities.rbi.org.in rather than relying on a previous year's figures. RBI also warns candidates about fraudulent appointment-letter emails from look-alike domains; treat only rbi.org.in and opportunities.rbi.org.in as authoritative for recruitment communication.
