Overview
The Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC), based in Quetta, recruits staff for the Government of Balochistan. It was set up on 13 August 1973, after One Unit was dissolved. Under the BPSC Act 1989 and its Functions Rules 1995, it runs tests, exams and interviews for first appointments to provincial civil service posts in BPS-16 to BPS-21, and to any other posts the government refers to it.
BPSC advertises posts in consolidated advertisements across many departments. In September 2026, for example, one advertisement covered college lecturers and professors, senior registrars, assistant engineers, agriculture officers and a legal officer. BPSC also holds the Provincial Civil Service (PCS) competitive exam for Assistant Commissioner and Section Officer (BPS-17) posts, and departmental exams for serving officers.

Who can apply
Domicile: you must hold a local or domicile certificate from a district of Balochistan. A married woman not in government service may apply on her husband's domicile if the certificate carries her name.
Post requirements: education, age and experience follow the service rules for each post and are printed in the advertisement. Only full-time, paid experience gained after the required qualification counts. Part-time, honorary, apprentice and internship experience does not.
Age: worked out from the date of birth on your matriculation certificate, as of the advertisement's closing date. Each post has its own base range (for example 18 to 28 or 21 to 28 years). In 2026 advertisements, the Government of Balochistan's general relaxation raised the upper limit to 43 years for fresh candidates, and to 50 years for government servants with two years' continuous regular service. No further relaxation is allowed beyond these limits. Being over or under age by even one day makes you ineligible.
Results pending: if your degree result has not been officially declared by the closing date, the application is not considered.
Zonal allocation: vacancies are split between merit (all Balochistan) and zones such as Quetta, Kalat, Zhob, Nasirabad, Mekran and Sibi, under the province's 1991 recruitment policy, with some posts reserved for disabled and minority candidates.
Levels or stages
Screening or written test
Most posts begin with an MCQ test in the subject of the post. Some posts have a subjective written paper instead. In 2026, for example, the legal officer post had a written paper on the Civil Procedure Code, the Limitation Act and the Specific Relief Act. Eligibility is checked in detail after the test, so a candidate who passes can still be rejected if found ineligible.
Viva voce
Candidates who pass the written or MCQ test are called for a viva voce. Besides the subject of the post, BPSC's 2026 advertisement lists these areas:
current affairs from the last one or two months
general knowledge of Balochistan, Pakistan and the world
Islamic studies (candidates of other religions are asked about their own religion)
Pakistan studies, 1857 to 1947 and 1947 to the present
PCS competitive exam
The PCS exam is announced when the government sends BPSC a request to fill Assistant Commissioner or Section Officer posts. It has seven subjects: four compulsory, including a general language paper, and three optional. Candidates get three chances.
Syllabus
BPSC publishes post-wise syllabi on the Syllabi page of its website, and states the test subject for each post in the advertisement. For most posts the test covers the subject of the post's required qualification.
Important dates
Consolidated Advertisement No. 07/2026 was dated 8 September 2026 and closes on 14 October 2026. BPSC's schedule of 29 September 2026 lists MCQ and written tests from 19 October to 3 November 2026, all held at the BPSC office on Samungli Road, Quetta. In September 2026 BPSC told candidates that all exams were being held in Quetta only, so applicants should choose Quetta as their test city.
Fees
Application fees in the 2026 advertisement, in Pakistani Rupees:
| Pay scale | Fee |
|---|---|
| BPS-16 and BPS-17 | Rs 800 |
| BPS-18 | Rs 1,200 |
| BPS-19 | Rs 2,500 |
BPSC's FAQs also list Rs 600 for BPS-15 and below, Rs 1,500 for the competitive (PCS) exam per post, Rs 2,000 for the AC/Tehsildar and Treasury Accountant departmental exams, and Rs 300 for a detailed marks certificate. A separate fee is paid for each post you apply for.
From 5 May 2026, fees must be paid online through a PSID using 1-Link channels (mobile banking, Easypaisa, JazzCash, ATMs, internet banking or over the counter at a 1-Link member bank). Fees paid on the old green treasury challan after that date are not accepted or refunded.
How to apply
Create a profile on the BPSC website, enter your education details and upload your degrees, marks sheets and other documents.
Apply online for each post separately before the closing date. Applications for BPS-16 and above must be online, and no hard copy is needed.
Pay the fee online through the PSID.
If you are a government servant, get departmental permission. Ex-defence personnel apply through the Ministry of Defence.
Download your admission certificate or roll number slip from the website (BPSC also sends an SMS), and bring it with your original CNIC to the test.
After the exam
After you pass the test, you must submit a domicile certificate verified by the Deputy Commissioner's office. Qualified candidates then go through the viva voce, and BPSC recommends successful candidates to the government. The government may fill fewer or more posts than advertised, or leave a vacancy unfilled.
Preparation tips
Read the advertisement entry for your post closely. Age, qualification, zonal allocation and test mode differ from post to post.
Prepare the subject of your required degree for the MCQ test, then revise Balochistan and Pakistan general knowledge, recent news, Islamic studies and Pakistan studies for the viva voce.
Keep your matriculation certificate, domicile and experience documents ready, because eligibility is checked again after the test.
