Overview

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) is an autonomous body under India's Ministry of Education that runs a network of more than 1,300 Kendriya Vidyalaya schools across the country and at a few locations abroad. KVS periodically recruits teaching and non-teaching staff through centralised, all-India written examinations. For 2025, KVS ran a recruitment cycle under Advertisement No. 01/2025 for posts including Primary Teacher (PRT) and Junior Secretariat Assistant; as of September 2026 the Tier II results for that advertisement had been declared.

Who can apply

KVS recruitment is centralised: eligibility, age limits and educational/training qualifications are fixed separately for each post (for example, Primary Teacher, TGT, PGT, or Junior Secretariat Assistant) in the specific advertisement for that recruitment cycle. Candidates should check the eligibility conditions published with the current advertisement rather than assume they carry over unchanged between cycles.

Selection process

Direct recruitment to teaching posts in KVS is centralised rather than done school-by-school. Advertisements are published in Employment News and other newspapers as well as on the KVS website. The published process is:

  1. Candidates apply online against the advertisement.

  2. A written, computer-based objective-type examination is held; for recent cycles this has been conducted in stages (a Tier I and Tier II format has been used for some posts).

  3. Candidates are shortlisted for interview or a skill/computer test based on cutoff marks in the written stage.

  4. A final select panel is prepared using the combined marks from the written examination and the interview/skill test.

Exam pattern

KVS has previously published detailed subject-wise schemes and syllabi for its recruitment tests as part of the "employment notice archive" on its website; the scheme differs by post (for example, Primary Teacher vs. TGT/PGT vs. non-teaching posts) and by advertisement, so candidates should refer to the syllabus document attached to the current advertisement.

How to apply

Applications are submitted online against the specific KVS advertisement while it is open. Candidates should watch the "Recruitment" section of the KVS website and Employment News for the release of a new advertisement, since KVS does not keep a permanently open application window.

After selection

Selected candidates are placed against vacancies across KVS's regional structure, which is organised into 25 regions overseeing the network of Kendriya Vidyalayas.

Preparation tips

Because KVS recruitment is centralised and infrequent, treat each advertisement's own syllabus and scheme as the authoritative reference rather than relying on an older cycle's pattern. For teaching posts, past cycles have combined a general/professional knowledge component with subject-specific and pedagogy questions, so building both subject depth and familiarity with teaching-methodology questions is useful preparation.

Does KVS recruit teachers for individual schools?

No. Recruitment to teaching posts in KVS is centralised and conducted through an all-India written examination, not by individual schools.

Where are KVS recruitment notifications published?

KVS publishes recruitment advertisements on its own website and in Employment News as well as other national and local newspapers.

Is there an interview after the KVS written exam?

For posts that include an interview or skill/computer test stage, KVS shortlists candidates from the written exam based on cutoff marks, and the final panel combines written and interview/skill test marks.
