Overview

Politiskolen is the Danish Police Academy. It has two entry routes: the police cadet programme (politikadet) and the three-year programme to become a police officer (politibetjent, basisuddannelsen). Both need Danish citizenship and a car driving licence.

There is no maximum age. Applicants need good general health and good basic fitness. Visible tattoos on hands, neck or head must be removed before study starts.

Exam pattern

The test process has four steps.

  1. Application. There are four to five deadlines a year.

  2. First test day. A colour vision test, then a physical test of six parts, then a written test of three parts: dictation, reading test and written case, taken on your own computer. Cadet applicants must pass the dictation and reading test. Police officer applicants must pass all three.

  3. Second test day. About two weeks later: a team task and an interview.

  4. Final processing. Security clearance by the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET), a health examination by your own doctor, and ranking of the police districts you prefer.

Tests are held in Zealand and Jutland, usually at the site closest to your home.

Important dates

The deadlines page for 2026 lists 16 February, 11 May, 24 August, 5 October and 30 November. The 5 October deadline is for police cadets only, with tests on 20 and 27 October in Zealand. The 30 November deadline covers both programmes, with tests in early 2027. Check the deadlines page for current dates.
