Overview
ASEP (Ανώτατο Συμβούλιο Επιλογής Προσωπικού, Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection) is Greece's independent authority responsible for the selection of public-sector staff, overseeing recruitment competitions (διαγωνισμοί/προκηρύξεις) across Greek government ministries, local authorities and public bodies. Since Law 4765/2021 reformed the selection system, ASEP's processes have aimed to strengthen meritocracy and standardise recruitment across the public sector.

Who can apply
Eligibility is set separately for each announced competition (προκήρυξη) and depends on the specific post, but generally requires Greek or EU citizenship, the educational qualification set for the post's category, and any role-specific requirements (such as language certificates or professional licences).
Exam pattern
Positions are grouped by education category (for example University Education, Technological Education, Secondary Education, and Compulsory Education), and the evaluation method differs by category: higher-category posts are more likely to include a written examination, while others are assessed primarily on objective, scored criteria such as qualifications, experience and (where relevant) interview performance. Scoring criteria are published and weighted per competition.
Marking and results
Final ranking combines the scored criteria specific to the announced competition — written exam results where applicable, qualifications, experience, and any other graded factors — published as a ranked list (πίνακας κατάταξης) for the post.
How to apply
Applications for each ASEP competition are submitted online during the window set out in that competition's official announcement (προκήρυξη), published on the ASEP website.
Preparation tips
Because eligibility, evaluation method and scoring weights are set separately for every announced competition rather than following one fixed national format, reading the specific προκήρυξη for the post applied to — rather than relying on a general sense of "the ASEP exam" — is essential before preparing.
Is there a single standard ASEP exam?
No, eligibility, evaluation method and scoring criteria are set separately for each announced competition, depending on the post's education category and role.
Does every ASEP competition include a written exam?
Not always; some categories and posts are evaluated mainly on qualifications and experience rather than a written exam, depending on the specific competition.
