Overview

Direct School Admission for secondary schools (DSA-Sec) lets Primary 6 students in Singapore win a place in a secondary school before they sit the PSLE. Schools choose students on talent, interest and potential rather than PSLE results alone. It is not an exam with one syllabus: each school sets its own selection method, usually an interview, audition or trial in the talent area it offers.

Who can apply

Primary 6 students can apply on the basis of talents such as:

  • sports and games

  • visual, literary and performing arts

  • debate and public speaking

  • science, mathematics and engineering

  • languages and humanities

  • uniformed groups

  • leadership

Students admitted through DSA-Sec still need a PSLE score that falls in a Posting Group the school offers. For example, a school offering only Posting Group 3 needs a PSLE score of 4 to 22.

Selection

Each school runs its own selection process and schedule, so check the school websites. Shortlisted students attend interviews, auditions or trials. Quotas depend on the type of school:

  • Integrated Programme schools generally take about 30 to 35 percent of their Secondary 1 IP intake through DSA-Sec.

  • Other schools can take up to 20 percent of their Secondary 1 intake.

  • Specialised independent schools such as NUS High School of Mathematics and Science, School of Science and Technology and School of the Arts can fill all their places through DSA-Sec.

School of the Arts takes applications directly on its own website, and Singapore Sports School runs its own admission process outside the DSA-Sec portal.

Marking and results

Each school sends its outcome directly to the student. There are three outcomes:

  • Confirmed offer: a place is reserved.

  • Wait list: a place is given only if students with confirmed offers do not take theirs. MOE says about half of wait-listed students in past years eventually got a place.

  • Unsuccessful: the student takes part in the normal Secondary 1 Posting exercise, if eligible.

Important dates

For the 2026 exercise (entry to Secondary 1 in 2027):

  • January to May 2026: explore schools and talent areas.

  • 6 May to 2 June 2026 (4.30pm): application through the DSA-Sec Portal.

  • By 28 August 2026: interviews, auditions or trials, and outcomes from schools.

  • 19 to 23 October 2026 (4.30pm on the last day): students with a confirmed offer or wait-list place submit up to 3 school preferences in order.

  • 24 or 25 November 2026 (tentative): school allocation, released together with PSLE results.

Fees

There is no application fee.

How to apply

Apply online through the DSA-Sec Portal after shortlisting schools. A student who cannot apply online should contact their primary school, and a parent can nominate another adult to apply or submit preferences using the MOE proxy form.

After the exam

A student admitted through DSA-Sec must keep that commitment. They cannot submit choices in Secondary 1 Posting and cannot transfer to another school after PSLE results are released. The specialised independent schools above may also hold a Supplementary Intake Exercise after PSLE results if places remain.

FAQs

Do I still need to take the PSLE?

Yes. A DSA-Sec offer does not replace the PSLE, and your score must fit a Posting Group the school offers.

Can I receive more than one offer?

Yes, some students receive offers from several schools. You then pick your preferred schools, up to 3, during the October preference period.
