Overview
Admitere UMF is the entrance contest for the medical and pharmacy universities (UMF) in Romania. Each university sets its own rules, so this page covers one: the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila" in Bucharest (UMFCD), based on its 2026 admission regulation. Medicine and dental medicine last 6 years, and pharmacy lasts 5.

Who can apply
Applicants for the bachelor's programmes need a baccalaureate diploma obtained in Romania or an equivalent one, whatever the year of graduation. Citizens of EU and EEA states can also take part. People with a baccalaureate from outside Romania must have it recognised, and candidates admitted on an international baccalaureate have six months to submit the equivalent diploma. Students who won first, second or third prizes in recognised national or international school Olympiads in biology, chemistry or physics can enrol on budget-funded seats without sitting the contest.
Exam pattern
At UMFCD, medicine, dental medicine and pharmacy admission is by a written multiple-choice test in Romanian. The nursing and midwifery faculty (FMAM) selects by file instead.
| Programme | Subjects | Questions | Time | Maximum score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Medicine, Dental medicine | Biology (compulsory, 60) plus Physics or Chemistry (your choice, 40) | 100 | 2 hours 30 minutes | 100 |
| Pharmacy | Organic chemistry (compulsory, 60) plus plant biology or human anatomy and physiology (your choice, 40) | 100 | 2 hours 30 minutes | 100 |
| Nutrition and dietetics | Biology | 40 | 1 hour 30 minutes | 40 |
Each question has a single right answer and earns one point. You must state your optional subject on the registration form and on the answer grid. There are four test versions.
Marking and results
Ranking is by score on the written test. The minimum admission grade cannot be lower than 5, and the score is converted to a grade. If candidates tie at the last funded place, the regulation applies these tie-breakers in order: the compulsory subject score, the baccalaureate average, and the mark on the first written paper of the baccalaureate. Answer sheets are read by computer straight after the test, and challenges about questions or results follow set procedures. Admitted candidates are placed on budget-funded or fee-paying seats by rank.
Important dates
UMFCD holds a single admission session each year in July, except nutrition and dietetics (and programmes authorised late), which hold theirs in September. The exact 2026 calendar is announced by the university and published on its site.
Fees
For 2026, the registration fee is 500 lei for all specialisations. There is a 200 lei enrolment fee for all admitted candidates, whether on funded or fee-paying seats. Annual tuition for 2026-2027 on fee-paying seats is 19,000 lei for medicine and dental medicine, and 10,000 lei for pharmacy, paid in three instalments (50%, 25%, 25%).
How to apply
Register with the university for the programme you want and pay the registration fee online. Documents are uploaded as PDFs and include an ID or passport, a birth certificate, your baccalaureate diploma with transcript (or a school certificate if you passed it this year), a language competence certificate, a medical certificate from a school or family doctor, a photo and proof of the registration fee. Check the regulation for the full list.
Preparation tips
Prepare the compulsory subject first, since it carries 60 of the 100 points.
Choose your optional subject early and practise it under timed conditions.
Is there one national UMF exam?
No. Each university runs its own admission. This page covers UMF Carol Davila.
