Overview

The NMT (Національний мультипредметний тест, National Multi-Subject Test) is a computer-based test that Ukraine uses instead of the usual external independent evaluation (ЗНО) for entrance to higher education during martial law. It is run by the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment (УЦОЯО) and its regional centres. In 2026 it is used for admission to bachelor's programmes, and for medical specialities at master's level.

The official site is in Ukrainian. This page is based on the 2026 admission campaign.

Exam pattern

The NMT has four subject tests: three compulsory and one chosen by the candidate at registration.

PartSubjects
CompulsoryUkrainian language, Mathematics, History of Ukraine
One to chooseUkrainian literature, a foreign language (English, German, French or Spanish), Biology, Physics, Chemistry or Geography

A candidate takes all four tests on one day in two blocks of 120 minutes. The first block covers Ukrainian language and mathematics, and the second block covers History of Ukraine and the chosen subject. In total the NMT lasts 240 minutes, which is 60 minutes for each subject. Candidates cannot register for fewer or more subjects.

Number of tasks per test in 2026:

TestTasks
Ukrainian language, History of Ukraine, Ukrainian literature, Biology, Geography30 each
Mathematics, Physics22 each
Chemistry24
Foreign languages (English, Spanish, German, French)32 each

There are no open-ended tasks that need an extended written answer, so candidates see their raw scores right after the test. Tasks in mathematics, history of Ukraine, biology, geography, physics and chemistry are also translated into Crimean Tatar, Polish, Romanian and Hungarian. The test is taken in specially equipped computer rooms at temporary examination centres in Ukraine and abroad.

Marking and results

Raw scores for each subject are converted into a 100 to 200 scale, using conversion tables approved in advance by the Ministry of Education and Science. To get a result on the 100 to 200 scale, a candidate needs at least 15 percent of the available raw points in the subject (for Ukrainian language and History of Ukraine, at least 15 percent plus one raw point).

Universities then apply coefficients to each subject for each speciality to compute a competition score. These coefficients and the formula are in the 2026 admission rules, and УЦОЯО offers a calculator for the competition score.

Official results for the main sessions were set to appear in candidates' personal accounts by 3 July 2026, and for the additional sessions by 29 July 2026. A candidate can also generate an information card for admission to Ukrainian universities and can order an extract of results for universities abroad, issued free of charge within 5 working days.

Important dates

For the 2026 campaign:

  • 5 March to 2 April 2026: main registration period.

  • Until 7 April 2026: candidates could change their chosen subject or test location.

  • 11 to 16 May 2026: additional registration period, for those who could not register earlier for valid reasons.

  • 20 May to 25 June 2026: main test sessions.

  • 17 to 24 July 2026: additional sessions.

  • Main-session results by 3 July 2026; additional-session results by 29 July 2026.

Candidates download an invitation from their personal account at least ten calendar days before the main sessions (three days before the additional sessions). It gives the date, time and place. The centre does not publish test locations, for security reasons.

How to apply

Candidates create a personal account on the УЦОЯО registration service, either with the Diia app (sending a copy of the digital passport) or by filling in a form. They then:

  1. Enter registration details: contact data, whether they are a current-year or earlier graduate, the elective subject, the place where they will take the test, and the task language.

  2. Upload copies of the documents required: an identity document, a document on education (a school certificate for current-year graduates, or a diploma or register extract for earlier graduates), and proof of the taxpayer number.

  3. Confirm and send everything to the regional centre.

Candidates with special educational needs add a medical conclusion, and people who want tasks in a minority language add proof that they studied in that language. Candidates who cannot register online can visit their regional centre in person during the registration period. If registration is refused, they can appeal to УЦОЯО within fifteen calendar days of the end of the registration period.

Preparation tips

  • Work through the 2026 demonstration versions on the УЦОЯО site to learn the time per subject (60 minutes each) and the task counts.

  • Choose your elective subject with the programmes you want in mind, as universities set subject coefficients per speciality.

  • Keep your registration documents ready before the window opens, because incomplete or non-compliant copies lead to refusal.

How many subjects are in the NMT?

Four: Ukrainian language, mathematics and history of Ukraine, plus one subject of your choice.

What is the NMT score scale?

Each subject is reported on a 100 to 200 scale, and a minimum of 15 percent of the raw points is needed to get a scaled result.

Is there an additional session?

Yes. In 2026 the additional sessions were on 17 to 24 July, for candidates who could not take the main sessions for valid reasons.
