Overview
The UK Chemistry Olympiad is a challenging chemistry competition for pre-university students, run by the Royal Society of Chemistry. It has a first round in school and a second round for the top performers, which feeds the selection of the UK team for the International Chemistry Olympiad.

Who can enter
Entry is through a secondary school or college in the British Isles; students cannot register as individuals. Entrants should be at least 16. The questions target final-year pre-university chemistry, so Year 12 students who are confident may enter, but GCSE students are likely to find it too advanced. Some international schools can enter, on fee-paying routes.
Levels or stages

A two-hour written paper taken at school, in a continuous sitting, at any time on the day. For 2027 it is on Thursday 21 January 2027. Schools get the paper electronically, teachers mark it with the mark scheme, and scores are submitted by 7 February 2027.
Round 2
Moderators select 25 to 30 students nationally for Round 2. The RSC page lists the Round 2 details as to be confirmed for 2027. Successful Round 2 students move toward selection for the International Chemistry Olympiad team.
