Overview

The Olimpiada Informatyczna (OI) is Poland's national programming olympiad for school students, organised by the Fundacja Rozwoju Informatyki with leading Polish universities. The Main Committee also uses it to select Poland's team for the International Olympiad in Informatics. The official site is in Polish.

Who can apply

High school students can enter individually. With the Main Committee's consent, students of primary schools, lower secondary schools and vocational schools may also take part.

Exam pattern

The olympiad has three stages.

StageFormat
Stage IOpen. Students solve tasks on their own and send in solutions by the deadline
Stage IIControlled conditions. Two five-hour sessions on different days, after a three-hour practice session that does not count; each participant has a computer
Stage III (final)Same format as Stage II; those who qualify become finalists

Marking and results

Solutions are programs or data files in languages listed by the Main Committee in the regulations. Automatic checking gives up to 100 points per task for correctness, running time and memory use. Scores set the ranking and who advances.

After the exam

Finalists and laureates receive the top grade in computer science subjects, exemption from the school IT exam, and possible advantages in university admission. Laureates receive gold, silver or bronze medals, with medals going to at most half of the finalists. The Main Committee picks the IOI team from the best performers.

How to apply

Register in Stage I through the olympiad site; the regulations for each edition give the schedule.

Can I enter without being in high school?

Only with the Main Committee's consent for primary, lower secondary or vocational school students.
