Overview
The Olimpiada Nacional Escolar de Matemática (ONEM) is Peru's national school mathematics olympiad, organised with the Ministry of Education. The ministry's rules document could not be opened during research, so the structure below comes from a secondary description of those rules and should be confirmed in the current bases.

Who can apply
Secondary school students. There are three levels:
| Level | Grades |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1st and 2nd |
| 2 | 3rd and 4th |
| 3 | 5th |
Exam pattern
The ONEM has four stages: school (IE), UGEL, regional (DRE) and national. The first stage is mass participation, with all secondary students at participating schools sitting it. Later stages admit the winners of the stage before, and the national stage is the final.
Marking and results
The maximum score is 100 points at every stage and level. In the school, UGEL and regional stages the test has 10 questions worth 10 points each, with no deduction for wrong answers. In the national stage there are four written-solution problems, each worth up to 25 points.
How to apply
Students normally enter through their school, which takes part in the first stage. Check the current bases for dates and the schedule.
Do students have to register individually for the first stage?
Reports of the rules say all secondary students of each participating school sit the first stage, so entry is through the school rather than by individual selection.
