Overview

The Olimpíada Informática Argentina (OIA) is a computing competition for students in primary and secondary schools, state or private, across Argentina. It is hosted by the Universidad Nacional de San Martín. The official rules page could not be read in full, so these facts come from reports of the published rules. Confirm current details on the OIA site.

Who can apply

Regular students of primary and secondary schools take part. The site lists several categories, including programming, an introductory category (OIA-Inicial) and digital skills (OIA-Competencias Digitales).

Levels or stages

The Programación category has three levels by secondary year.

  • Level 1: 1st and 2nd year

  • Level 2: 3rd and 4th year

  • Level 3: 5th and 6th year

Exam pattern

The overall structure has these stages: school, jurisdictional (provincial), national, selection, Ibero-American and international. In the provinces this is run as school, inter-school, provincial, regional and national rounds.

After the exam

The Argentine team for the International Olympiad in Informatics is chosen through a selection process. It includes the 6 best-ranked students of Level 3, the 4 best of Level 2 and the 3 best of Level 1 from the national round of the Programación category.

Preparation tips

  • Practise writing and testing programs on past OIA tasks.

  • Learn the basics of loops, arrays and sorting before moving on to harder algorithms.
