Overview
Iran's national scientific olympiads are organised by the Young Scholars Club, set up in 1987-88 to promote basic sciences. The club holds the olympiads and prepares students for international competitions in mathematics, physics, literature, biology, computer science, chemistry, astronomy and astrophysics. It organises them on behalf of the Ministry of Education.

Who can take part
Each subject has its own entry rules. For the informatics olympiad, a 2017 paper describes the first round as open to students in grades 10 and 11.
Stages
The olympiads run in several rounds that narrow each year. For informatics, the 2017 paper says that every February between five and ten thousand students take a nationwide first round, and about one thousand go on to the second round, which is held over two days in April.
After the olympiad
Top performers are trained for international competitions. Details of team selection are not described in the sources reviewed.
