Overview

The Bangladesh Olympiad in Informatics (BdOI) is an annual programming competition for pre-university students. It follows the model of the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) and began in 2005. It aims to find talented young programmers and to build the national team. The official page gave the eligibility and rounds below. The category and round-size details come from reports, so confirm them on the official site.

Who can apply

Contestants must be under 20 years old and not attending college or university. High school students, including HSC students in Bangladesh, can take part.

Levels or stages

Reports describe four groups: Primary (up to grade 5), Junior (up to grade 8), Secondary (up to grade 10) and Higher Secondary (up to grade 12).

Exam pattern

The competition has two stages.

  • Divisional round. A preliminary round held at the same time at venues in divisional districts. Participants must bring institutional identification.

  • National round. Top performers move on. Reports say about 60 contestants qualify, and the national round runs two days with three problems and five hours each day.

Contestants are tested on analysing problems, designing algorithms, using data structures, and programming and testing their solutions.

After the exam

Reports say ten participants from the national round go to a training camp, and each country sends up to four students to the IOI.

Preparation tips

  • Practise algorithmic problems in C++ or Python, including testing on tricky inputs.

  • Learn sorting, searching, graphs and basic dynamic programming.

Who is eligible?

Students under 20 who are not attending college or university.

How does it connect to the IOI?

The BdOI is modelled on the IOI and reports say it is used to choose the Bangladesh team through a training camp.
